Known issues on the 2001 ML55 AMG. Owners have filed eight complaints about the 2001 ML55 AMG with NHTSA; steering, hydraulic service brakes and service brakes account for two each, and across all eight, two complaints reported a crash while one reported an injury. Separately, NHTSA filed four recalls against the 2001 M-Class line. One concerned certain 2001 M-Class line vehicles in which a tap of the brake pedal might fail to switch off cruise control, although the stalk still cancelled it. Another addressed certain 2001 M-Class line vehicles whose power steering cooler hose clamp could lack grip, letting fluid escape and eventually harming the pump. The 2001 M-Class line also drew four complaints, two of them about the electrical system. The manual gives steering, brake and cruise control procedures with specifications, torque values and diagnostics.
