2001 GMC Sierra 2500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500 is built around a single engine, the 6.0L overhead-valve V8 of 364 cubic inches, naturally aspirated and fueled by gasoline. Two cabs carry it, a 4-door extended cab pickup and a 2-door standard cab pickup, and the trim ladder runs SL, SLE and SLT. With one powertrain to document instead of several, the procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics go deep on that V8 and on the brake, steering and fuel systems built around it.

Known issues on the 2001 Sierra 2500. Seven recalls are on the federal record. One covers a crankshaft position sensor that can work intermittently or quit outright, leaving the engine running rough, stalling, or refusing to restart. Another covers parking brake friction linings that can wear until the brake no longer holds a parked truck. A third covers unwanted antilock activation, most common where road salt is used, which stretches low-speed stopping distances. Of 591 owner complaints, 299 name the service brakes, followed by engine and cooling and the fuel system. Sensor testing, parking brake adjustment and antilock diagnostics are all covered here.
