Certain 1999 Town Car limousine vehicles could be built with a lower ball joint whose single-piece bearing can slowly weaken and crack, letting the joint separate and the control arm fall, with a loss of steering control; dealers replaced the lower ball joints. Certain 1999 Town Car vehicles had jacking instructions that could lead an owner to place the jack on a rear frame weld, where it might collapse if the wheels were not chocked.
