Written for the 1998 Lexus LX 470 as Lexus built it, this service and repair manual is matched to the exact year, engine and trim of the truck in your driveway, so the clearances, torque figures and service intervals you work to for the 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE) are the published ones rather than values carried over from an adjacent model year.

Known issues on the 1998 LX 470. One recall is on federal record for this model year. It covers the exterior lighting, specifically the headlights: certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The daytime running lights do not meet the luminous intensity standard, and that condition could blind the driver of a vehicle driving in the opposite direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 5 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins have been issued for it. The diagnostic and repair procedures behind that lighting system are here.
From verifying daytime running light output to a routine service interval on the 4.7L V8, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 1998 LX 470.

THE BRAKE PEDAL NEEDS TO BE "PUMPED" TO OBTAIN SATISFACTORY PEDAL HEIGHT. UPON FIRST APPLICATION AT A STOP THE PEDAL TRAVELS FURTHER THAT YOU WOULD EXPECT, IF A SECOND APPLICATION IS GIVEN THE PEDAL HEIGHT WILL BE MUCH HIGHER FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF BRAKING FORCE. THIS CAN CAUSE ABRUPT STOPS FOR ONE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE CAR. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SAYS " THEY ALL DO THAT". AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THAT IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER TO ME. YOUR HELP IS REQUESTED. *AK
