Known issues on the 1998 XK8. Two recalls sit on the federal record for this model year. One covers the gasoline fuel system: certain replacement fuel filters were built with a connector that was not manufactured to Honeywell's specification, so the O-ring may not seat correctly on the fuel line. That condition may cause an inadequate seal at the connection, potentially leading to a fuel leak, and in the presence of an ignition source a fire could occur. The other covers vehicle speed control: the cable adjuster bracket nut on the outer sleeve of the throttle cable can become displaced from the cable abutment bracket on the engine, and should that occur the throttle will open only partially even with the accelerator pedal fully depressed to the floor. NHTSA lists 32 owner complaints for the year, and the factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind both of those systems are here.
Fuel line work at a filter connection, a throttle cable check at the abutment bracket, or a routine service on the 4.0L V8 — each one stays on the OEM procedure and the specification Jaguar set for the 1998 XK8.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THESE VEHICLES AND MODIFY THE THROTTLE CABLE SYSTEM.
