1996 GMC C2500 Suburban Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 GMC C2500 Suburban keeps to one body, the four-door sport utility, and three trims: Base, SLE and SLT. Under the hood the choice runs three ways, between the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8 and the naturally aspirated 5.7L and 7.4L gasoline V8s. The manual treats each of them as a separate service subject, with its own procedures, specifications and torque values, then covers the shared driveline, brake, steering, suspension and electrical systems with wiring diagrams and diagnostics.

Known issues on the 1996 C2500 Suburban. One recall is recorded federally, on replacement oil filters that may not seal as intended and can let engine oil out where it may ignite. Owner complaints number six, and four of them concern fueling — two logged under fuel and propulsion, two under the fuel system — with one more on the air bags. That points a reader straight at the fuel delivery and engine management sections, and at the restraint system coverage, where the specifications, wiring diagrams and diagnostic procedures for those circuits are set out.
