Known issues on the 1994 SL500. NHTSA recorded one recall against the 1994 R129-chassis models. On certain of those vehicles a headlamp wiper arm could slip out of alignment and trap its blade in the recess below the lamp; using the washers in that state kept the pump going until the reservoir ran dry, and a pump running empty could overheat and start a fire. Dealers fitted a new pump. The 1994 SL500 itself has 11 complaints, nine centered on the electrical system, and 2 complaints reported a fire.
