This factory service and repair manual for the 1993 Mercury Tracer treats a compact sold four ways, as Base, LS, LTS and Trio, in sedan and wagon form, with a choice of two naturally aspirated fours: the 1.8L of 112 cubic inches with double overhead cams, or the 1.9L of 116 with a single cam. The difference matters at every step, since valve, timing and fuel figures are engine-specific, while the chassis, brake and body procedures run common to the whole range.

Known issues on the 1993 Tracer. A single recall is on the federal record for this year, and it is a chassis fault: the offset toe adjusting pin in the front suspension can fracture under torsional loads, flexing, impact or over-torque, and a broken pin can cost the driver steering control. Complaints run much heavier at 93, spread fairly evenly across the fuel system with 12 and steering and the service brakes with 11 apiece. Those are the three areas where this manual's specifications, torque values and diagnostic routines earn their keep on a car of this age.
