This factory service and repair manual for the 1992 BMW 735i sets out one configuration and stays with it, a 3.5L inline-six with a single overhead camshaft, naturally aspirated and gasoline-fueled, in a four-door sedan offered in one trim, through engine, transmission, chassis, body and electrical work. Late-life cars are usually diagnosed rather than serviced, and the parts of the book that get used most are the specification tables, the wiring diagrams and the tests that confirm what a component is actually doing.

Known issues on the 1992 735i. Three recalls sit on the federal record for this year. One is a restraint failure, where a broken locking tab on the steering wheel contact ring can eventually break the wiring running through it, so the frontal air bag would not deploy in a frontal crash. Another has the brake light switch failing in place, leaving the brake lights permanently on or permanently off. The third covers overheating that goes unnoticed until the heater core end piece cracks and hot coolant escapes. Six complaints are recorded, half of them on engine and engine cooling.
