Known issues on the 1990 Topaz. Two recalls are on the federal record. Threaded parts inside the frontal air bag inflator can be damaged during assembly and separate when the inflator fires, releasing hot combustion gases into the passenger compartment. The other is an ignition switch that can short internally, overheating and smoking, with fire in the steering column possible.
