On certain 1990 Continental vehicles the rear lower subframe mount plate nuts could crack from stress corrosion after long exposure to road salt, letting the subframe's rear corners drop and making steering suddenly very heavy; dealers added mount bolts, reinforcement plates and new nuts. Front disc rotors on certain vehicles driven where heavy chloride road treatments are used could corrode badly enough to fracture, and full cast rotors replaced them.
