Known issues on the 1983 Continental. Two recalls sit on the federal record for the 1983 Continental. On certain 1983 Continental vehicles with the automatic overdrive transmission, a badly made retaining pin on the internal linkage rod that works the parking gear could break, so the gear might not lock even with the lever in park; dealers inspected the rod assembly and replaced it if needed. Certain vehicles with column shift and an automatic transmission had selector tube clips that could be too soft, letting the tube move out of place so the indicator might no longer match the chosen gear.
