Known issues on the 1989 RX-7. Seat belts are named in 19 of the 30 owner complaints about the 1989 RX-7, engine and engine cooling in 5 and visibility in 4. The recall on record concerns the automatic shoulder belt on certain 1989 RX-7 vehicles: its rail could wear until the cable that draws the buckle back jammed in it, which would leave the belt inoperative and the occupant poorly restrained in a collision. Dealers replaced belts that had stopped working, and Mazda stretched the warranty on the belt rails and motors to last as long as the car. Two complaints mention a fire, and two mention an injury.
