1988 Ford Tempo Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 Ford Tempo is written for the four-door sedan and the two-door sedan with the naturally aspirated 2.3L OHV inline-four gasoline engine, the only engine offered. The five trims are AWD, GL, GLS, LX and Sport. One engine keeps the mechanical procedures, specifications and torque values compact, while the wiring diagrams and diagnostics cover the whole trim range, including the AWD driveline that sets that trim apart from the other four.

Known issues on the 1988 Tempo. Two recalls are on the federal record for this year. The ignition switch can short internally, and the result can be overheating, smoke or fire inside the steering column; separately, the two screws that hold the throttle position sensor can loosen and back out, letting the sensor slip off the throttle shaft and preventing the throttle from returning from a mid position. Owners have registered 164 complaints with NHTSA, led by the electrical system, then engine and engine cooling and seat belts. Ignition switch wiring diagrams, throttle position sensor procedures and torque values, and cooling system diagnostics are in the manual.
