Known issues on the 1987 W100. Two recall campaigns were filed against the 1987 W100. Certain 1987 W100 pickups with the inline-six engine and a manual transmission had plastic hydraulic clutch parts that exhaust heat could damage during long cold running at raised engine speed, leading to fluid leaks and a risk of a small fire where fluid met the hot exhaust; heat shields were added between them. Certain trucks with a six-and-a-half-foot box, fuel injection and no rear bumper could have the box crossmember hit the pump module fuel line in a rear collision and leak fuel, so brackets were installed underneath.
