Known issues on the 1982 Toronado. NHTSA lists 1 recall for the 1982 Toronado. It covered certain 1982 Toronado vehicles fitted with the 5.7L diesel: a retainer for the governor weights inside the injection pump could break, and the throttle valve could then hang open, so the engine would neither drop back to idle nor shut off when the driver tried to stop it. Dealers replaced the governor weight assembly at no charge. The one owner complaint logged concerns the gasoline fuel system, and it reported a crash and a fire.
