On certain 2017 MX-5 Miata cars, a fault in the air bag control module software could make the front air bags deploy too forcefully in a crash, which put the cars out of compliance with the federal occupant crash protection standard; dealers update the SAS control module software. Certain automatic-transmission cars could, because of a TCM programming mistake, drop a gear unexpectedly and decelerate hard, risking loss of control; dealers load corrected TCM software.
