Known issues on the 2011 MKT. The single recall for the 2011 MKT applies to certain vehicles equipped with the turbocharged 3.5L engine. A fault in a sensor on the steering motor could switch off the electric power steering assist, leaving the driver to steer with extra effort at low speeds. Dealers read the steering module for stored fault codes and replaced the steering gear where codes appeared. Steering also leads the 19 owner complaints, at 11, followed by the engine at 4 and the power train, vehicle speed control and wheels at 2 apiece.
