It applied to certain 2010 GTI vehicles built between September 2008 and August 2009 with the direct shift gearbox: a wire at a gearbox temperature sensor that might be badly crimped could signal overheating that was not happening, and the transmission would suddenly shift to neutral. Dealers reprogrammed the transmission control module.
