Known issues on the 2009 Impala. Five recalls are on the federal record for this model year, and three of them concern occupant protection. In one, the front passenger seat frame can chafe the wiring for the presence sensor, so the system fails to see an occupant and shuts the air bag off. In another, front safety belt webbing may not be properly secured at the lap belt anchor and cannot restrain as intended. A third covers a passenger air bag inflator that can fracture as it fires.
