Known issues on the 2004 XLR. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. Aftermarket fuel pumps supplied for the car can seize and cut fuel flow, stalling the engine while driving. A failed accelerator pedal return spring combined with extreme cold can keep the engine from returning to idle within the required three seconds, meaning more brake force and distance are needed to stop. A rear brake hydraulic line routed near the left exhaust manifold and pipe can absorb enough heat to boil the brake fluid, risking a line leak and reduced rear braking. The daylight running light, turn signal and parking lamp bulb can burn out prematurely from vibration or a poor seal, cutting turn-signal visibility to other drivers. And a lower control arm ball stud nut/washer made from the wrong material can fracture, letting the control arm separate from the steering knuckle and, in the worst case, the wheel assembly from the car along with its brake hose.
