1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1997 E420. NHTSA filed a recall against certain 1997 E-Class line vehicles after some side air bags went off without any crash; dealers replaced the door-mounted modules and checked the wiring inside the doors. The 1997 E420 has 34 complaints of its own, twenty of them about suspension, with structure and the electrical system next. Two complaints reported a crash, one reported a fire and two reported an injury. The broader 1997 E-Class line adds 20 complaints, again led by suspension.
