Known issues on the 1994 E420. NHTSA filed one recall against certain 1994 E-Class line vehicles: the metal footrest on the front passenger side could rub through the wiring harness beneath it over time, and the resulting short could overheat wires, stall the engine or set off an air bag. Dealers added cable ties and edge protection. The E420 itself drew eleven complaints, mostly electrical (five) and hydraulic brakes (four), and two of those complaints reported a crash.
