Known issues on the 1996 Cutlass Supreme. Two recalls are on record for the 1996 Cutlass Supreme. In one, poorly crimped retainer tabs on the lower pinion bearing of the power rack and pinion on certain vehicles could let the balls escape, making steering heavy to the left or even adding unexpected assist to the right; dealers fitted a new bearing or, where needed, a gear assembly. The other addressed certain vehicles whose driver air bag inflator wiring could corrode and fire the bag unexpectedly, fixed with a new inflator.
