1996 GMC C3500HD Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 GMC C3500HD covers two chassis layouts, the two-door conventional cab and chassis and the four-door crew cab version, both in Base trim. Two engines are listed and they could hardly be less alike: the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8 and the naturally aspirated 7.4L gasoline V8. Nearly every service figure changes between them, so the manual carries separate specifications and torque values for each and shared coverage for the driveline, brakes, steering, suspension and electrical systems.

Known issues on the 1996 C3500HD. NHTSA's record for this model year contains one owner complaint, against the fuel system. With a turbocharged diesel and a large gasoline V8 on the same chassis, fuel work splits into two entirely different jobs, and the manual is organized that way. Delivery components, pressure and flow specifications, priming and bleeding steps for the diesel, and the diagnostic sequences that separate a supply fault from a control fault are all documented, with wiring diagrams for the pumps, sensors and controls involved.
