This factory service and repair manual for the 1994 GMC C3500HD is a one-body, one-trim book — the two-door conventional cab and chassis in Base form — with three engines behind it: the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8 and the naturally aspirated 5.7L and 7.4L gasoline V8s. What varies is not the shape of the truck but its duty, and the manual treats it accordingly, running procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics through the engine, driveline, chassis and electrical systems in turn.

Known issues on the 1994 C3500HD. Two recalls are on record. One involves brake-light switch wiring built with reversed polarity, which wears the contacts early and eventually leaves drivers behind with no signal that the truck is stopping — a serious matter on a chassis this heavy. The other covers replacement oil filters that can seal inadequately and let engine oil out where it may burn. Nine owner complaints are logged with NHTSA, five on the service brakes and three on the structure. Brake repair, the stop lamp circuit and frame procedures all appear here in full.
