Known issues on the 1989 Medallion. NHTSA lists 2 recalls and 11 complaints for the 1989 Medallion. In certain 1989 Medallion cars, the cooling system pressure cap could vent too little when the engine overheated, letting pressure rupture the heater core and spray hot coolant near the driver's legs; a better-venting cap was the fix. A second recall reached certain vehicles whose heater core end cap could lose strength over time and send steam into the cabin. Among the complaints, the electrical system, engine and engine cooling, seat belts and hydraulic service brakes have 2 each. One complaint reported an injury.
