Known issues on the 1988 Medallion. Both recalls on the 1988 Medallion trace back to the cooling system. Certain 1988 Medallion vehicles were recalled because the heater core end cap could weaken with age and heat and then release steam into the cabin, cutting the driver's view; a coolant-temperature bypass valve was installed. Certain cars were also recalled because the pressure cap could not vent enough during overheating, so pressure could burst the heater core near the driver's legs; the caps were replaced.
