1988 GMC R2500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 GMC R2500 is written for the four-door crew cab pickup in Base, High Sierra and Sierra Classic trim, with four naturally aspirated overhead-valve engines listed: a 7.4L V8 of 454 cubic inches, a 6.2L diesel V8, a 4.8L inline-six of 292 cubic inches and a 5.7L V8. The crew cab is the only body listed, which keeps the book focused on engine, driveline, chassis and body electrical work, each with procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics.

Known issues on the 1988 R2500. The federal record for the 1988 R2500 is clean — no recalls, no owner complaints with NHTSA. That leaves ordinary maintenance and repair, which on a truck offered with a 454 cubic inch gasoline V8 at one end and a 292 cubic inch inline-six at the other means very different figures for the same job. The manual keeps them separate and adds brake, steering, suspension and axle procedures, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics for the chassis all four engines share.
