Known issues on the 1988 R20. The federal record is clean for this year — NHTSA lists no recalls and no owner complaints. On a truck with six engine options that puts the emphasis squarely on getting the right specification: compression and clearance figures differ from the inline-six to the 7.4L V8 to the diesel, as do the diagnostic routines. Past the engine, the manual covers clutch and transmission work, axle and driveshaft service, brakes, steering, suspension and the full chassis wiring, each with its own torque values.
