1987 Ford FT900 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 Ford FT900 has two engines to account for: the naturally aspirated 8.2L V8 diesel and the turbocharged 7.8L inline-six diesel. Both were fitted to a chassis offered in two configurations that year, a low tilt tractor truck and a medium conventional straight truck, all under one Base trim. Because the two diesels differ in layout and in whether a turbocharger sits in the loop, their specifications, torque values and diagnostics are broken out separately.

- 7.8L inline-six (473 cu in) — turbocharged, diesel

Known issues on the 1987 FT900. Nothing is on the federal record for this model year, neither recalls nor owner complaints logged with NHTSA. The manual therefore earns its place on ordinary maintenance and repair rather than campaign work: injection and fuel supply on both the 8.2L V8 and the turbocharged 7.8L inline-six, turbocharger service on the latter, cooling and lubrication figures for each, and the chassis, brake and wiring procedures shared by the tractor and straight truck versions.
