1986 Chevrolet Chevette Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1986 Chevette. Three recalls sit on the federal record. Two of them cover the push-pull headlight switch, whose contacts can break the circuit intermittently so the headlamps flicker or go out at night or in bad weather. The third involves the automatic transmission shift lever button wearing to the point that gears can be selected without pressing it, which allows an accidental shift from drive into reverse while the car is in motion. Three complaints have been logged, one each on engine cooling, vehicle speed control and the service brakes, and all three systems are diagnosed here.
