Known issues on the 1983 L1013. The 1983 L1013 has one recall on the federal record, and it involves the steering. On certain heavy-duty trucks equipped with hydraulic steering, the threaded ball joint might not fully close the clamping slot cut into the drag link. Moisture could then get in and corrode the link from inside, weakening it to the point of fracture. The fix replaced links with an open slot and lengthened the ball joint stud.
