1982 Chevrolet K20 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1982 Chevrolet K20 covers a truck bought either as a finished pickup or as a cab and chassis waiting for a body, both two-door. Three engines are documented: a 4.8L overhead-valve inline-six of 292 cubic inches, a 5.7L gasoline V8 of 350, and a 6.2L diesel V8 of 379, all naturally aspirated. Custom, Scottsdale and Silverado trims follow. A six and two V8s in one book means the engine chapters are indexed by configuration rather than merged.

Known issues on the 1982 K20. Two recalls stand on the federal record. The serious one concerns rear axle shafts that were not heat treated correctly during manufacture: a shaft can break, and the wheel and tire assembly can come away from the truck. The second covers a replacement oil filter that may seal inadequately, allowing the engine to lose oil, with fire named as the possible result. One owner complaint was recorded, on the engine and engine cooling. Axle service, engine lubrication and cooling specifications are all set out here with their own torque values and diagnostic steps.
THE REAR AXLE SHAFTS RECEIVED IMPROPER HEAT TREATMENT DURING MANUFACTURE. THE SHAFT MAY BREAK AND THE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY COULD DISENGAGE FROM THE VEHICLE.
DEALER WILL REPLACE BOTH REAR AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLIES, IF NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE.
