Known issues on the 2009 Rabbit. Two recalls apply to this Rabbit, and the first concerns braking. Certain 2009 Rabbit vehicles were recalled because the antilock brake control unit could fail while ABS or stability control was working, risking a loss of control; dealers updated its software so it tests itself, replacing modules that fail. Certain vehicles with the inline-five engine were also recalled because a washer reservoir tab could wear a hole in a fuel supply line. Owners filed 62 complaints, led by service brakes (39) and stability control (25). Among them, 6 complaints reported a crash, 2 a fire, 2 an injury and 1 a death.
