One recall names the 2008 R550 directly: on certain vehicles moisture could build up and corrode the brake booster housing, weakening braking or causing it to fail, and owners were told not to drive until the repair was done. NHTSA filed two separate recalls against the 2008 R-Class line. One covered certain vehicles with a faulty driving pin in the power steering that could break in a turn and remove hydraulic assist.
