2004 Yamaha V STAR CLASSIC Service and Repair Manual

Yamaha shortened the code to XVS65AS for the 2004 Classic, and the manual stays the same: LIT-11616-XV-01, valid from 2001 through 2005 and shared with the V Star Silverado.

Suffix changes like this catch people out. The bike is not a different machine, but a parts counter will ask for the code, so it is worth writing XVS65AS somewhere you can find it.

As a working reference the manual is thorough. Periodic maintenance gives intervals and the procedures behind them. The engine chapter goes from removal through valve train, pistons, clutch, transmission and crankcase with every clearance stated. Carburetion, fuel and evaporative plumbing have their own section. Chassis work includes wheels, both brakes, front fork service and rear suspension. Electrical testing is by circuit, with the diagrams reproduced in full.
