Known issues on the 2004 CLK500. The federal record lists three recalls for the 2004 CLK500, and they share one weak point: in certain vehicles the glass sunroof was either poorly secured or bonded to its sliding frame with adhesive that could break down, so the glass could come away onto the road. Separately, NHTSA filed two recalls against certain 2004 CLK-Class line vehicles, one for software coding that could keep the fuel pump from getting its post-crash shutoff signal, one for seat belt buckles whose burr could stop them locking. Of 15 owner complaints, 6 cite the fuel/propulsion system and 4 the seat belts; five separate complaints were filed against the 2004 CLK-Class line, 2 about tires.
