Known issues on the 2002 Explorer Sport. Five recalls are on federal record. Two address the upper bolt on the driver's high-back seat that attaches the recliner to the seat back frame, which could fracture and let the seat back recline until it hit the second row; the speed control deactivation switch could leak internally and overheat; and the Firestone tire replacement campaign applied as well. Owners have filed 3,621 complaints with NHTSA, and the power train alone accounts for 1416 of them, followed by structure at 458 and suspension at 427.
