Known issues on the 2002 E-450 Econoline Super Duty. This model year has three recalls on federal record. One concerns aftermarket Purolator fuel filters whose quick connectors may not fully seat even when they feel attached, so fuel can spill and ignite. The other two involve speed control: a deactivation switch on gasoline and natural gas engines that may overheat, and a broad Ford campaign carrying a vehicle fire risk. Owners have logged 13 complaints with NHTSA, mostly about tires, with the engine and electrical system each drawing a couple. Fuel system, speed control and engine procedures, specifications and wiring diagrams in the manual address those subjects.
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH SPEED CONTROL, GASOLINE OR NATURAL GAS ENGINES, THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MAY OVERHEAT.
