Known issues on the 2001 Z8. Two recalls sit on the federal record for this year, and both concern the same weakness in engine cooling. A failing auxiliary fan motor can overload the circuitry in the fan control unit until that unit fails and the fan stops turning, which is enough on its own to overheat the engine and damage it, and enough in some cases to start a fire in the control unit at the front of the engine compartment. Four complaints are on record, one each against the fuel and propulsion system, the exterior lighting and the structure.
