The 1998 Chevrolet P32 is the motorhome version of GM's one-ton P30 forward-control chassis: the frame, engine, transmission, steering and brakes that Class A builders such as Winnebago turned into finished coaches. This service and repair manual covers that GM chassis, from the 7.4L Vortec V8 gasoline engine or 6.5L turbo diesel and the 4L80-E four-speed automatic to the independent front suspension and the disc brakes with four-wheel ABS. It gives you torque specifications, wiring diagrams, diagnostic procedures and step-by-step repairs for the running gear. The living quarters are another matter: the generator, appliances, plumbing and house wiring came from the coach builder, so their service information lives with the motorhome maker.

Known issues on the 1998 P32 Motorhome. NHTSA keeps no separate P32 listing, so the federal record for this chassis sits under the 1998 P30. It holds two recalls, and neither is a GM chassis campaign: both cover FRAM replacement filters, a fuel filter that could leak fuel and a racing oil filter that could lose oil, each with a fire risk. Owners have logged nine complaints, and seven involve the brakes, most of them GM's hydraulic Auto Park system, a spring-applied drum brake on the back of the transmission that an electric pump holds off. Leaking pressure switches, a pump that keeps running and a brake that set itself while driving come up again and again. A note in NHTSA's records says an examination traced the problems to adjustment or worn parking brake shoes rather than a defect trend, and that GM agreed to send owners a safety advisory letter. The other two complaints describe the engine cutting out on hot days and the power steering gear box coming loose.
