1997 GMC C1500 Suburban Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1997 GMC C1500 Suburban documents the four-door sport utility in Base, SLE and SLT trim with a choice of two engines: the 5.7L gasoline V8, naturally aspirated, and the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8. Both are overhead-valve designs. What separates them in service is fuel handling and cooling load, and the manual gives each its own specifications, clearances and torque values while treating the driveline, chassis and body work as common ground between them.

Known issues on the 1997 C1500 Suburban. Four owner complaints are logged with NHTSA against this model year: two of them on the service brakes, with the steering and the fuel system taking one each. Brake work comes with friction, rotor and hydraulic specifications, steering with linkage and gear adjustment procedures, and fuel with pressure testing, delivery diagnostics and the wiring diagrams for the pump circuit. Torque values are listed with the procedures they apply to.
