1996 GMC K1500 Suburban Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 GMC K1500 Suburban is written for a 4-door sport utility in Base, SLE and SLT trim, with two very different engines to document: the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8 and the naturally aspirated 5.7L gasoline V8, both overhead-valve. Fuel delivery, starting, emissions and diagnosis diverge sharply between them, and the manual reflects that with separate procedures and specifications, while the chassis, brake, climate, electrical and body content applies to the whole range.

Known issues on the 1996 K1500 Suburban. A recall covering replacement oil filters applies to this year: their sealing can fail, emptying engine oil out and creating a fire hazard. Owner complaints number fourteen — visibility draws six of them, the service brakes four and the air bags one. The manual carries wiper motor and washer procedures and the circuits behind them, complete brake hydraulic and antilock service with specifications and torque values, and supplemental restraint system procedures with the diagnostic sequence for reading a fault before working on it.
