Known issues on the 1990 300D. NHTSA filed a recall against certain 1990 W124-chassis models, a listing that names 300E, CE, TE, D, E4M and TE4M passenger cars. On those, the plastic housing over the auxiliary fan's preresistor could melt under some operating conditions and set the resistor alight, starting a fire under the hood. The fix swapped in a preresistor with a metal cover.
