Known issues on the 1987 V2500. One owner complaint is logged with NHTSA against this model year, and it concerns the steering. That is a single data point rather than a trend, but steering on a heavy four-wheel-drive pickup is worth taking seriously, since wear in the box, the linkage joints or the front axle assembly all present as the same vague wander at the wheel. The manual works through that systematically, with inspection procedures, published specifications, torque values and alignment figures.
