1987 GMC V1500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 GMC V1500 has four engines to account for in one two-door standard cab pickup: a 5.0L overhead-valve V8, a 6.2L V8 diesel, a 4.3L V6 and a 5.7L V8, all naturally aspirated and all but the 6.2L burning gasoline. Three trims were offered — Base, High Sierra and Sierra Classic. With a diesel and three gasoline engines on the same list, the fuel, cooling and charging sections split several ways, and each carries its own procedures, published specifications and torque values.

Known issues on the 1987 V1500. Federally, this pickup carries a clean sheet: no recalls, and not a single owner complaint logged with NHTSA. That puts the whole burden on maintenance, and on a four-wheel-drive pickup of this vintage the wear shows up in the front axle and transfer case, the brake hydraulics and the steering linkage long before the engine gives trouble. All of those are documented here with service procedures, published specifications and torque values, alongside wiring diagrams and diagnostics for the chassis circuits.
