Known issues on the 1986 Calais. Two recall campaigns name the 1986 Calais. Certain two-door 1986 Calais passenger cars could crack in the body pillar where the door striker bolt mounts, and the crack could grow until the door resisted closing or opened during a crash; dealers fitted inner and outer reinforcement plates. On certain 1986 Calais cars, the secondary hood latch could be out of alignment or bind at its pivot, allowing the hood to open while driving and strike the windshield, reducing the driver's forward view.
