1986 GMC C6000 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1986 GMC C6000 lists four engines: three gasoline and one diesel. The gasoline choices are the 6.0L overhead-valve V8 of 366 cubic inches, the 5.7L V8 of 350 cubic inches and the 4.8L overhead-valve inline-six of 292 cubic inches; the diesel is the naturally aspirated 8.2L V8 of 501 cubic inches. Both listed body styles, the 2-door conventional cab and chassis and the medium conventional tractor truck, fall under trim code C6D042, and the book documents each system for all four engines.

Known issues on the 1986 C6000. The 1986 C6000's federal record is clean: no recalls, no owner complaints. In the absence of any campaign history, the manual is read for its numbers. Specifications and service procedures are given for each of the four engines, the diesel included; the tractor and cab-and-chassis versions get their own chassis procedures; and wiring diagrams and diagnostic routines cover the electrical side of both. It is the reference a shop needs when a truck this old has no factory support left behind it.
