1984 Mercury Marquis Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1984 Mercury Marquis has two engines and two bodies to keep straight: a 2.3L SOHC inline-four of 140 cubic inches certified for gasoline or LPG (propane), a 3.8L OHV V6 of 232 cubic inches, and a four-door sedan or four-door wagon in Base or Brougham trim. The propane capability is the detail that changes shop practice most, since fuel handling and the related diagnostics differ from the gasoline-only V6 documented alongside it.

Known issues on the 1984 Marquis. Two recalls are on record. One covers front shoulder belt D-ring anchor bolts mounted in material that does not adequately support them, a non-compliance that weakens the anchorage under load. The other involves replacement fuel pumps whose diaphragms may be improperly installed or inadequately tested and can leak, creating a fire hazard. Fourteen complaints have been recorded, four on the power train, four on the electrical system and three on the fuel system.
